I was seriously expecting Hum of Hurt to be some sort of mixtape of leftover songs since Converge already released an album this year, but this is just as engaging as the last record, and it's different too.

It's rare to have an album which is a mix of both catchy meloblack and straight up dissonant black metal riffs, let alone make it actually fit together.
I'm hearing a lot of criticism for the mixing and guitar tone, which is understandable in some ways because the drowned-out vocals are really disappointing and need to be much louder. They sound like an afterthought, and the album would have honestly been better without them.
