I need more of this kind of chaos from Richard. It's brilliant, experimental, fascinating. It's mind-blowing.
Aphex makes me dance to this song. It's really nice, but the way the song ends is quite abrupt.
Overall, it's not too bad. I think the further I get into the EP, the more I like the tracks, to be honest. Slo Bird Whistle could have been really nice, and a lot of people like it, but the bird samples are a bit grating on my ears. This version of Pancake Lizard also seems better to me than the one on the Donkey Rhubarb EP.
I confess I'm not blown away by this project. In fact, I almost feel like I would have preferred it if it had been released by another electronic music artist, but for Aphex... let's just say it doesn't exactly fit with what I like about his music. It probably deserves a higher rating than this, but that's just my personal opinion.
Not unpleasant, but not particularly remarkable either. 3 Gerald Remix is good, nothing more, and 24 Tsim 2 is just okay, even dragging a bit at 6 minutes and 12 seconds. I don't see why some people find this EP underrated or anything; for me, it's pretty forgettable, but that's just my opinion.
A really enjoyable EP. The first three tracks are very solid, although the tracks composed by Luke Vibert and those by AFX have slightly different vibes. Nightmail 1 is particularly noteworthy and is truly high quality and really fun. The last track, 4x Atlantis take1, seems a little weaker and perhaps brings the project to a slightly lower note, but overall the experience is worthwhile.
It's also quite funny that so many people got this project recommended by YouTube; I wasn't aware ... read more
I absolutely don't understand the rating and reviews for this project. Not at all.
Probably the worst project ever released by Richard under all his aliases. It's absolutely unbearable to listen to, it's 1 hour of pure noise (but literally noise, we're not like concrete music and this kind of thing), sometimes strident and very hard to listen to. It just hurts. The only reason it escapes a 0 is that it's not an offense to a musical work, a group of people, that ... read more
I didn't really like it and I found that by a lot of appearance it was too much, especially at the end of the live. I don't know if there is a video version; But I think we are on one of these levels so extreme, dance and transcendent that it is not appreciable without being there. In short, 2 strange hours. Besides, I've never seen such a ugly cover. (not this one on AOTY)
First of all, thank you to maskimus, the GOAT, for the recommendation. I listened to this superb album by an artist whose existence I won't lie, I was completely unaware of, during my climb up Mount Inari. After all, what could be better than a Japanese artist for a Japanese monument? This superb, emotional soundtrack blended perfectly with this place of nature, prayer, and contemplation, and probably fulfilled its purpose: to make me appreciate life's little moments and create a ... read more
A live recording that is generally of high quality, with exceptional sound quality for a restored bootleg. The tracks from this tour are really good: the Animals demos, a large part of Wish You Were Here, all of Dark Side of the Moon, and an exceptional version of Echoes. The presence of Dick Parry on saxophone is certainly a plus.
I'm having trouble understanding the general opinion on this EP; I found it pretty cool and relaxing. As the title suggests, I listened to it before going to sleep, and it worked, thanks Richard.
Extremely long, which is rather expected for 280 tracks, but it does require a real investment. Overall, it's pretty good, even very good at times, but you have to be interested in Richard's work; not all the tracks are great. The overall coherence is inexistant by the very nature of the project, which is simply a compilation of tracks he posted on SoundCloud. Let's just say it allows you to better understand his creative process, and there are plenty of remixes (which are ... read more
I just came from the premiere of Satyagraha at the Paris Opera, and I've never seen such a good piece of music performed live. It was divine; the staging was incredible, the singers, chorus, and dancers were impressive, and the countertenor had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. What power, what purity, what a performance!
And you know what? During the musicians' curtain call, Philip Glass himself appeared, even though no one tell that he was here. This man is an idol to ... read more
There are some good ideas in this project, but it seems a bit messy in the end. Let's just say it's okay, nothing more.
Terribly mid and boring. It doesn't resemble Aphex Twin in sound, instrumentation, style, or even cover art. It's not bad in itself, but coming from an artist like him, it's disappointing for a serious project.
Meh... It's not particularly bad or anything, but I just don't really like the aesthetic Aphex came up with in this single. I don't have much to say, but it didn't resonate with me.
Honestly? I loved it. I'm surprised I didn't listen to this EP sooner because it's truly impressive. I like Aphex Twin. I like electroacoustic music, so of course I loved it. Full of interesting sonic experimentation and with a vinyl that plays at two speeds, this is my Syro, no doubt about it.
