Quite the amazing EP! It has 2 awesome highlights from the soundcloud dump: Spiral Staircase and Nightmail. Spiral Staircase has an interesting history, being a track Richard snuck into a Luke Vibert remix contest. While it was made to specifically cater to Luke's tastes, it's also an amazingly well constructed song with a lot of emotion. Nightmail on the other hand is just straight up fun. A really enjoyable EP. The first three tracks are very solid, although the tracks composed by Luke Vibert and those by AFX have slightly different vibes. Nightmail 1 is particularly noteworthy and is truly high quality and really fun. The last track, 4x Atlantis take1, seems a little weaker and perhaps brings the project to a slightly lower note, but overall the experience is worthwhile.

random one off EP that got YouTube viral, aphex's acid-tinged idm is his main musical sound after making drukqs but I don't think it's his apotheosis or anything, the most interesting thing is how consistent he is with it. the nightmail sample here is obviously chill as hell, like the original Fred again g house vocal sample thing but also utilised pretty well in an acid techno setting. the other tracks are groovy acid stuff that I felt he did better on cheetah, as loose as that ... read more
