Caustic Window LP probably wouldn’t have left a significant mark, and would have been heard as second-tier James. Twenty years later, though, we’re hearing it with that aura, that extra bit of longing that comes from how scarce music from James has become. And in that light, second tier is still very good indeed.

Richard D. James’ Discography #28: Caustic Window LP

So, this is the last Caustic Window project and has been known as one of RDJ’s lost projects for a while. It was supposed to be released in 1994, but Rephlex never got around to releasing it. Overhated, personally I like this more than some of his released work. It's a great mishmash of his different types of tracks, and brings me back to his earlier work with SAW 85-92.

This was one of the most interesting projects I’ve listened to by James so far due to its sheer variety. The only thing it has not much of is his minimalistic, almost forgettable tracks like Flutey. Pretty much everything here stands out
Knowing the Caustic Window alias, I expected this to be a fully grating, loud album. And it’s close! Even songs like Revpok (probably my favorite abrasive track from James on here because of the melody at 1:30) and Stomper detunekik pale in ... read more
