While not my favourite Squarepusher album, it is very nice to hear Thomas going in a new direction.
Macquarie ridge is a beautiful bonus track, highly recommend.
Feels like some sort of childhood memory brought forth and visualised in high fidelity by a machine, in all the detail that shouldn't be there. Wonderfully RDJ, it's a shame the wider public isn't as aware of this as the rest of his work, but then again it pays to dig through his backlog, so I think of it more as a reward for those so inclined. Beautiful and pioneering, just the same as James has always been.
A piece of music history, not only leaving it's mark on forums such as WATMM to transform into KEYOSC, but also bringing forth the peaks of newtechre combined at some points with the wholly enigmatic grooves of oldtechre, case in point "bladelores", arguably the best newtechre track of all time.
This album is both wonderfully soothing, and amazingly catchy in places. Whenever I put it on I end up listening to the whole thing, and drift into an almost meditative state, completely supported by the music like a distant daydream.
