Coming off of Live Rope, I had pretty high expectations for Birthing. While this certainly isn't what I expected the album to be like, I believe the album delivered, even if it isn't in the way I thought it would.

while i still find the 2nd half of this album to be relatively weak, the more intense and skeletal sound of this album has really grown on me
Perfectly straddles the line between calmness and intensity. Everytime this album takes a big swing it feels earned and intentional. Flood almost parallels nature in the sense that it is neither malevolent nor benevolent, but rather trudges forward with full power, ambivalent to the whims of the listener.
The silence after this ended is the loudest silence I've ever heard
It's only been about 5 months since I first listened to this thing, but I've somehow managed to relisten to it enough to make it one of my most listened to albums of all time.
