Robert Rental & The Normal - Live at West Runton Pavilion, 6-3-79.

this sounds scary as fuck, but also very rudimentary with the musical content being pretty basic and the synths also feeling very simple in design, fair for 1979 though. I like it but it doesn't really feel like something to be liked, you just have to experience it and go through it. I don't know how popular it is nowadays but it is a nice experience for people checking out the beginning of industrial I think.

this record from some guy is a combo of ambient and progressive house, with some really lush production on everything. the prog house can have some duller moments although nothing too dull, but it also has some groovy highlights where it might remind you of other prog house musicians you've heard. the same is pretty much true of the ambient except I think it's of way higher quality, it goes for the ambient classical style a lot but it also has some morose synths that will make you ... read more

ostensibly this is a part of a made-up genre called folk metal that no one can prove exists, but I feel like it's just part of the wider world of prog metal (people say it's post-metal which makes way more sense), and it has that weird feeling in that genre where it's trying to both convey a gothic capital r romantic sadness and also capture a sense of spell-binding sprawling epicness, producing an entirely new muted or alien human emotion that can't be comprehended, and ... read more

for such a commercially focussed guy this sure is one of the sickest house albums I've heard, maybe even better than the maximalist shit basement Jaxx was doing three years after this. to be sure this isn't the deepest music to make, drum loop + sample and a track is mostly done, and some tracks are a bit more lightweight but some have the most expertly chosen samples and drum loops possible, u don't know me is just a masterclass in house music. there's a lot of absolutely ... read more

Éliane Radigue - Adnos I-III

3 hours of freezer without even the thematic throughline of death, this more accurately portrays death by being a soundscape with no emotional attributes whatsoever. it's interesting to compare it to modern art, like there's probably some Barnett Newman ideology going on here, but this is more drawn out than a painting obviously. nice that it has fans but this is probably more interesting if you don't look at VAVs a lot.
