Somber, elegant, and captivating.
There is something intriguing for the ear on every track. From slick and groovy tracks like Slowly and The Fool You Need, to mesmerizing instrumentals on tracks like All Directions and Dream State. Lanterns is at its best when its instrumentals are filled with energy and fervor. Alternate World, Lost It To Trying, and No Crimes fit this bill and are easily the highlights on this album along with Easy and Lanterns Lit for my personal, slower and more melancholic picks. Not to say the rest are bad, they are in fact quite enjoyable and even beautiful if played in the right mood, just everything else feels better.

Some generational pop bangers that are easily my favorite pop songs of the 21st century. I'm not typically a pop listener but this album is infectious with its energy, I can't help but enjoy nearly every second of it. I personally find this to be their least interesting album.
I also say that with an incredible amount of praise considering my rating. It is far more ambient than their future work and I find the gaps between the more notable parts on the songs less interesting or touching than usual.
