Duran Duran - Rio

Ok I lowkey listened to this because I liked INVISIBLE but I wasn’t feeling it…don’t usually like 80’s pop though

Just good ass pop music. Similar to George Michael and Carly Rae Jepsen, you can tell she genuinely loves pop music for what it is and what it can be. I’m excited for her future.

Was never really familiar with his work outside of what he’s produced for other people. I kind of needed something from this I did not get; it was a little too tepid for me. The good songs were gorgeous though. This sounds like the kind of album that would grow on me a ton once I’m able to tell a larger difference between the songs

Lady Gaga - Joanne

Did not like this. It felt very insincere to me but to be fair Gaga has always kind of had that, I don’t really know what I actually expect from her. Has a few very good songs though. I was shocked to find that a lot of the fans hate Hey Girl.

Love the samples on this one. Longer than it needs to be but nothing stands out as bad so it’s fine. Wish music still sounded like this today 💔💔💔💔

Massive Attack - Blue Lines

This was my first Massive Attack album and I loved it. Lowkey my first trip hop album too. They display so much range on here; I can’t tell if I like this or Mezzanine more, but I can definitely say the songs on this one cover much more ground despite being 15 minutes shorter. The songs on here are all so smooth, I still cannot stop saying I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me to see me looking back at you.

My favorite album by her…love the allusions to space throughout the lyrics. It’s absolutely driven home through this album’s production, she nailed the outer space thing. Her sound is something so rare in R&B today! So many songs on this album I would love to see live someday. Make It Out Alive made it in my Spotify Wrapped this year.

My favorite Madonna album so far. This album’s production is just phenomenal (albeit sometimes a little repetitive) and it is so conceptually airtight. Deeper and Deeper is amazing.

Ravyn Lenae - Bird's Eye

One of my favorite albums from the last year. I love how diverse this album is sonically; it's a really refreshing and eclectic take on modern R&B, yet it all fits together so well. I specifically adored the production on 1 of 1 and Dream Girl, the latter of which's whistles strangely enough remind me of the 2000's where every video game was in a tropical setting (and 1 of 1 lowkey reminds me of Katamari Damacy). Lenae's voice all over the album is super soothing, but ... read more

Travis Garland - Travis Garland

I was introduced to "Where To Land" in 2022 after Beyoncé sampled it on RENAISSANCE and have been falling asleep to it almost every night ever since, so I don't know why it took me until now to listen to the full record.

Garland is capable enough to deliver powerful vocals, but I found myself enjoying the chiller/lower-key/mid-tempo tracks more than anything else on here. Fortunately, nothing on this album stands out as "bad", which is all you can really ask ... read more
