The ending of Cry for Me is so catchy and melodic, I mean most of this album is, it's so beautifully produced and put together.
This is the sonic precursor to In Rainbows and the bleak and melancholic soundscape of Ok Computer; it's a middle ground of what both those albums' exceptional traits: the electronic and glitchy production of IR and the trodden down, bleak, and saddening vibe that Ok Computer has to a lesser degree than both. Though this is still a great record and I enjoyed most of it, especially "The National Anthem" and "Motion Picture Soundtrack." Radiohead is great at creating ... read more
This is like toned-down psychedelic punk, like simple song structures with insanely catchy hooks and riffs.
Survive ruins, was it my doing or fate?
Bars for days.
The album sounds futuristic and introspective, with its drumless and rather avant-garde production. Like the bells and flute on "That Cold and Lonely,” create a rather unsettling sound, which is found throughout the album. Conceptually, too, the album is rather gloomy and centred around themes of death. Ka's vocals perfectly match these themes and sound deeply melancholic, not to mention his wit. "Mourn the Night" is definitely the highlight on this song, with a beat ... read more
The bridge and the start of the song is really great, but then it just fizzles out and loses its catchy melody near the end.
Felt like such a drag listening to it. It's just too much. I don't get what's experimental about it because it's just a bunch of noises, riffs, and effects spammed aggressively, and sometimes it works like on "babygirl", but other than that, this album is just boring. It's generic, and I can't distinguish some of the tracks from each other because it really just sounds redundant, especially if you re-listen to the album again.
But hey, at least he ... read more
Kinda drags on too much; could be much more tighter but it is posthumous so I don't know what to say about that. Still, it's pretty solid.
The title track is so good it's unbelievable, but then the rest just mellows out and in the end starts getting more forgettable and is a drag at points by just being a weird mix of sounds and noises that feel chaotic and don't really feature any rhythm you can track
A harrowing and often awe-inspiring collection of movements that stick to the rather brutish voice of Swans: the dry and heavy vocals of Michael Gira mixed with the grand and abrasive instrumentation of the band. While still being haunting and heavily immersive, there are still elements of hopes weaved into the tracks, though, almost always nearing the end of the track like on "I Am a Tower" perhaps eluding to a light at the end of the tunnel, but according to the motifs and themes ... read more
