Eminem - Relapse

Relapse was not received warmly when it released in 2009, with many reviewers tearing into his vocal performance and lyrics. Over time though, this album has received a sort of ...relapse... with many turning around on it, especially since Eminem as an artist has sort of deteriorated in quality since this album's release. The entire album feels like a relic of Eminem's peak era from 1999-2002, rather than a 2009 release. Now some people may see this as a bad thing, since the album already felt aged on release, but personally I think the old sound works in this album's benefit rather than a downside. Feeling like a record he would make in the early 2000s is far from the worst we can get from Eminem. Saying that though, even if it's closer to something like The Eminem Show in sound rather than MMLP2, I think this album doesn't quite reach that level of quality we hear in his early records. Despite that though, Relapse is still a very enjoyable experience, and in my opinion is the final album where we can hear the final echoes of his old style of music before he changed his approach in Recovery to the sound we hear today.
