Jon Bellion was one of the artists who got me into music, and one who also instilled in me a love for pop music in general. Where on Human Condition he often fell to being too try-hard, he's much more confident on Glory Sound Prep. Yes, he hasn't changed his identity here at all. The sincerity, the charming if admittedly corny moments, but it's all wrapped up in a super strong package. Jon's music instantly takes me back to days on the school bus, my rinky dinky airpods ... read more
This album is about deconstruction and reconstruction. If we were to have fAble just by itself, this album would not hit as hard. Its pairing with Sable paints a picture of the end of something, of two halves. Darkness surrounded by light, much like the album cover. Sable, defined as the color black, is the last gasp of “the man in the cabin.” The tortured and isolated poet, whose melancholy was at the core of even the most beautiful and lush Bon Iver tracks. The bangers have more bite, the experimentation has been cranked up, and the slower cuts feel more in line with the style of the entire record. Where I did like the eclectic sound ... read more
I've always been obsessed with the bohemian-esque backstory of this album. A group of guys moving to South Central LA, all living in a house together, banking on a music career. The fact that they genuinely manifested that is inspiring as hell. You can feel that hunger throughout this record, but equally this sense of self-assurance and even melancholy. You can hear this in its singles; “HEAT,” “GOLD,” and “FACE” for each respective feeling. It feels ... read more
