Tate McRae is undoubtedly one of the most talked about pop stars on the planet right now, and with her 3rd studio album “So Close To What” defining her current status of a rocket pop star, she has jetted off onto new heights solidifying herself into today’s market as one to watch, but will this album be her only success, or is there more to come? In my opinion, honestly, I actually think it’s too soon to tell.
The reissue of what already is a good pop album, ... read more
The last in the “Over It” trilogy by Summer Walker is finally here, and well, it’s… something.
I’d consider myself to be a Summer Walker fan, truly, but this instalment of this trilogy just isn’t it for me. I feel like she has leaned too much into the experimental element and her voice, has soft and beautiful as it is, just doesn’t work with some of the tracks on this album. My biggest example of this, is the title track. A big grand orchestral ... read more
ROSALÍA’s “LUX” is a feast for the ears, and for everyone.
What album can you name that has 13 different languages? If you can’t name one, then now you can. Not only does ROSALÍA have incredible vocals, she flaunts them all whilst singing in her native tongue, Spanish, as well as English, Japanese, German, and Portuguese to name a few. This album truly is a treat for her native and international fans, and not just because of the music.
ROSALÍA has ... read more
“Everybody Scream” is show-stopping, spellbinding, magical, earthy, and witchy. It is, in essence, a classic Florence + the Machine album, but it’s also more than that.
Florence + the Machine is truly an artist that comes around once in a blue moon. There isn’t another artist like her, and I don’t think there ever has been. She has the eccentricity of the likes of Kate Bush, Björk, and in this album, she homes in on taking the leaf out of Stevie Nicks’ ... read more
“The Art of Loving” feels like a warm summers day from morning til night. It encapsulates the warmth and the excitement of falling in love, all whilst telling the different vantages of doing so.
Olivia Dean is an artist who doesn’t come around too often. So rare in fact that she is like honey that should be encased in the most delicate of wrapping. Her voice is just a breath of fresh air, and this album really showcases her amazing ability to tell a story through her music. ... read more
Lily Allen’s first album in 7 years is everything you would expect from Lily: honest, witty, fun, and equally chaotic and disturbing.
Since her breakup from Stranger Things’ David Harbour, Lily has been relatively quiet, both in music and in the news. This maybe why. Lily has spent her quieter days, on what can only be assumed as reflecting on her emotions and experiences, and writing an album about them, and the result is, quite something.
This album sears the knockout of her ex ... read more
Demi Lovato seems to be lost in finding her way as an artist with her new album “It’s Not That Deep”.
Let’s face it. Demi is an incredible vocalist, and she’s definitely proven over the years that her voice can fit a whole range of different genres. The issue is, the true credibility to the music she puts out. I hate to say it, but I almost feel that Demi’s artistry is to just jump on the current wave of whatever is fresh at that time, or at least tries to ... read more
bbno$’s self titled is just a soundboard of Reddit memes and offers nothing artistic or even interesting.
To begin with, anyone listening to bbno$ would think his music is catchy, different and fun, which is true but to a very certain extent. The problem, I feel, is that bbno$’s artistic expression through his music is very limited. His career just seems to be catching meme like songs to get a quick viral moment on the likes of TikTok and Twitter. The sad thing is, is that bbno$ ... read more
Tame Impala is unequivocally one of the most distinct artists today, but his latest album “Deadbeat” is not one for the books.
I think, when you have very strong albums in your career, take for his example “The Slow Rush” and the incredible “Currents”, it’s hard to muster up something as unique, as story telling, yet new and daring as them. There is definitely a story behind this album, and it is new, and daring, and most certainly unique, however, in ... read more
Amber Mark’s second studio album “Pretty Idea” is nearly on the ‘mark’.
There are some outstanding songs on this album, and it’s clear that Amber and her team think so too, as the 2 best songs on this album were released as singles. “Let Me Love You” being a great pop song, produced like a dream and like velvet to your ears.
“Don’t Remind Me” featuring the incomparable Anderson .Paak, a man who knows exactly what it’s ... read more
Khalid’s “after the sun goes down” is certainly a shift forward in his artistry, but the sun never fully rose to it’s peak on this album.
Don’t get me wrong. Khalid has an excellent voice and owns his craftsmanship as a songwriter but there is a certain element to this album that becomes a little ‘one note’ after a certain point and it happens too quickly. The album starts off incredibly strong, like, really strong. “medicine”, “in ... read more
Where is the showgirl?
Whilst it’s not the worst album I’ve ever heard, “The Life of a Showgirl” seemed like it was going to offer a perhaps different side to Taylor, an evolution as it were, with a touch of theatre and cabaret, but it just seemed to be a false advertisement.
The album doesn’t offer anything new in the Swift department when it comes to sound or vocals, but I must say, there are a few tracks on the album that when it comes down to production, ... read more
Here For It All, I’m not.
As far as 16th studio albums go, well, they come by quite rare. For us to have someone as iconic as Mariah Carey as we do, it’s no doubt that we are all grateful that she is still in the studio, working hard, and releasing music. However, Mariah’s 16th go at an album release isn’t the best.
As time goes on, as artists get older, their voice changes, their artistry adapts to where they’re at in their life and so and so forth, but ... read more
Little Mix’s Perrie debuts her first solo album since the band went on hiatus and it’s… interesting.
Perrie is the second member to release an album of solo material, just weeks after her bandmate JADE’s triumphant “That’s Showbiz Baby!” and they could not be any polar opposites of an album if we had to compare.
In another review I did, I mentioned that JADE created a plethora of trashy, melodramatic chaos of hits that went against the grain of ... read more
Does MAYHEM live up to it’s name? Absolutely. But not in the way you may initially think when it comes to Lady Gaga.
Gaga had just come off the back end of a not-so-successful movie so she needed something to bounce back off of. We all know and love Gaga for being an actress but music is how we fell in love with her, and after her brief stint with “Harlequin”, and the super mega smash of “Die With a Smile”, alongside Bruno Mars which was later added to MAYHEM, it ... read more
Ever since the success of “Short n’ Sweet”, it seems that Sabrina is going in just one direction. Of course it’s too soon to tell with only album after the huge success of the former, but if it’s not broke, don’t fix it, right?
The only problem is, “Man’s Best Friend” doesn’t feel separate project. This album could easily be a continuation, or an extension of “Short n’ Sweet”, except, “Short n’ ... read more
The Beyoncé of the group? No. This is the JADE of the group.
“That’s Showbiz Baby!” is a chaotic, trashy, noisy mess but in the most incredible way. There is sadness, happiness, anger, bitterness, and that’s just in the lead single, “Angel of My Dreams”, but this wave of emotion continues throughout the whole album, yet every track sounds completely different to the next, whilst they all bind together immaculately.
This album completely shreds away ... read more
After the release of the “Midnight Sun”, the single, I was curious to know what direction the sound of the album was going to be. “Pretty Ugly” didn’t offer anything new or exciting, to me, it was a typical Zara Larsson release, but that’s not to say that it’s awful, because it’s not. Zara has always released fresh, fun, “girly pop” music, but “Midnight Sun” seemed to have a breath of fresh air to it.
Upon first listen of ... read more
Doja’s art comes at a high price that only artists like Lady Gaga can familiarise with. With Doja’s ever-growing artistry, especially since her outbreak back in 2019’s “Hot Pink”, she has constantly reinvented and reshaped the true meaning of what it means to be a female rap artist. She explores and moulds different genres to her will and most of the time, it works.
Unfortunately, this album falls a little flat on the nose. “Jealous Type” being the ... read more
