This album is fine. "Square Mall" and "Second Floor Awaits" were good. The rest of the tracks feel disconnected from the Mallsoft vibe and lean harder into the ambient and Field Recordings, which feels a little off to me. All of the tracks are missing a great standout aspect to make them really good.

Johnny Blue Skies - Mutiny After Midnight

This album was pretty cool! Never heard any of Sturgill Simpson's music before but if there's more like this it might be worth investigating. The album started a little rough, I think the first 2 tracks are just okay, but once it gets going its really good. "Don't Let Go" is a great song but my favorites are "Viridescent" and "Situation" both are absolute jams. Instrumentals are great throughout, and Sturgill has such a great singing voice. lyrics ... read more

Gorillaz - The Mountain

What a fantastic album to cover where Gorillaz has been throughout their career. A lot of these tracks feel like they could have been ripped right out of the Plastic Beach era, which just so happens to be my favorite! This album is loaded with features, but unlike an album like Humanz, they don't drown Damon's vocals out and its still very clear that he is still the focus is on him. Many of the features being posthumous also ties into the theme of death that persists throughout the ... read more

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
100

When it comes to live albums, there are two criteria that need to be met in order to make it a good one. #1 The songs performed need to be better or at least more interesting than their album versions. #2 The energy of the live show needs to be captured in the sound, whether that be sounds from the crowd or chemistry between the band members on stage. "Stop Making Sense" is one of the best examples of both of these to the point where its just ridiculous. Before I continue, I want to ... read more

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper (The Extended Cut)

Only Counting New Tracks. The first two tracks are pretty cool especially "Learning to Swim". The true highlight is the 3 track EP attached to the end. Some truly fantastic instrumental tracks here which serve to bring you further into the world of vanisher.

Joji - Piss In The Wind
68

I'm a little disappointed with this album. Being a long time Joji fan from his Filthy Frank days, I've always enjoyed his softer more emotional side that he portrays in his music. Since its been a while and he's separated from his old label 88rising, this album was shaping up to be a perfect storm for Joji. obviously we don't know the full details regarding his label situation but we can assume that his new label Palace Creek, whether he created it or not, will allow him to ... read more

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb
73

Solid record. Personally, I've had very little experience with Asap's music, but since its been so long since his last record, this felt important. The first half is better than the second but there are highlights throughout. I love "Stole Ya Flow", "No Tresspasing" "Robbery" and "The End". If I was a hardcore rocky fan I think I would be a little disappointed with this album after so long, but as a new fan it was pretty enjoyable.

Family Force 5 - Dance or Die

This album was fine. I've never been a fan of the super intense screamo lyrics on tacks like "Get Your Back Off the Wall", and my main problem with this album is the vocals in general. The instrumentals and production is pretty good. My favorite track is "How In The World", its got a great melody. i also enjoyed the track "D-I-E 4 Y-O-U". The opening track was also good, but I could take or leave a lot of the rest of the album.

Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues
96

Another Fantastic album from Talking Heads. While I don't think this album hits the same highs as "Remain In Light", it remains a lot more consistent throughout its runtime. I had heard a few of these songs before, like "Burning Down The House" and "This Must Be The Place" and I love those songs especially the latter (Might be my favorite on the album). I was surprised with how much I loved the deep cuts on here like "I Get Wild/ Wild Gravity", ... read more

Talking Heads - Fear of Music

I've had "Life During Wartime" stuck in my head all week after hearing it for the first time. This album feels like the next logical step after their last record; It's more refined and even dancier. This album takes a darker turn than their other work but it still has its lighthearted moments like the track "Animals" which is one of my favorites along with "Cities" and "Air". Overall great album. (Side note: Forgot to write this before listening ... read more

Talking Heads - Remain in Light
100

"Remain In Light" feels like a true culmination of everything that Talking Heads released before, but also so much more. The beginning of this project hits you with a one-two punch of "Born Under Punches" and "Crosseyed and Painless" which are my 2 favorites other than "Once In A Lifetime". Once you get through the high energy of the first half of the album, it slows down quite a bit which I can understand many people not liking this shift, but I feel it ... read more

Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food
83

I loved this album! It takes everything that was good about their first record and amplifies it into a funkier, more danceable album. My biggest complaint from their debut was David Byrne's unique singing, but it felt more cohesive and less distracting this time around. I love the track "Found A Job" any my favorite is "Take Me To The River". Really good record.

Talking Heads - Talking Heads: 77
73

As someone who was vaguely familiar with Talking Heads, this album took a bit of adjustment. I feel like David Byrne has such a unique and nonstandard singing voice which adds a lot to this album but can be a little off putting in the beginning. However, as you get deeper into the project things start to click together in a really good way and by the time you reach the track "Psycho Killer", you also reach the highest point on the album. Other tracks I like include "No ... read more

Oneohtrix Point Never - Tranquilizer
89

I enjoyed this album a lot. I'm familiar with Lopatin's work as Chuck Person, but I've never heard any of his Oneohtrix work. This album surprised me with how different yet similar it is to Eccojams. Vast ambient sound collages make up the bulk of the runtime here and that is exactly what I like. This project took a little while to click but once I hit Track 5, "Modern Lust" the album kept getting better. Really good album will definitely check out more of his stuff.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Phantom Island
70

This album was a bit disappointing for me, I like most gizz fans heard the title track when it came out in October of 2024 and I loved it a lot. "Phantom Island" is one of Gizz's best songs and that got my expectations up for the rest of this record to be the same quality. This album starts off really solid with the addition of "Deadstick" but the rest just feels okay to me. i like "Aerodynamic" and the last 3 tracks are a lot of fun but not much else stands ... read more

Danny Brown - Stardust
87

Danny Brown has one of the most interesting rap careers of any rapper still working today, and that career is reflected back on this album perfectly. Danny has taken a more introspective lens to his music with his last album "Quaranta" and that thread continues here. He talks about his own struggles with love and addiction, and that honesty is what makes this such a great project in my eyes. While Danny looks inward, the feature list pulls from all corners of the internet and make for ... read more

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Flight b741

Gizz goes Blues! This album a lot of fun! I always thought this album would be one of my favorites from the guys but it really hasnt grown on me all that much since it came out. All of these songs are good but there aren't a whole lot of standout moments to really set this album over the edge for me. I love the track "Le Risque" and it might be a hot take to call it one of the bands top 10 songs. other than that, i like "Raw Feel" and "Field of vision" and my ... read more

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - The Silver Cord
71

"The Silver Cord" is one of KGLW's most unique projects. I think that the extended versions of these songs are the definitive versions but the shorter versions are appreciated for a faster version of the album. These tracks are an interesting reflection of their
Petrodragonic counterparts because both albums from an interesting duo with lyrical and melodic themes shared in both. For this album however, these tracks work best when you can lose yourself in the groove and like the ... read more

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation
94

Gizz returns to Thrash Metal in full force. I saw someone say that "Infest The Rats Nest" was a good thrash album that just happened to be made by Gizz, but "PDA" is a great Gizz album that also happens to be thrash. This album is in my top 5 of gizz albums. I knew that the boys could do thrash metal and do it well, but this album adds some much needed KGLW original spice that I felt a few of their releases before and after this one have been lacking. From the release of the ... read more

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Changes
76

Gizz leans into Jazz once again and its pretty darn good. When this album came out, I was a little underwhelmed but it has grown on me over time. "Change" is an easy highlight but i also love "Hate Dancin'" and "Exploding Suns". Im not as hyped about this album as i hear from others online but its still a solid release in the Gizz catalog
