Making an argument for this as one of the most overlooked albums in the great 'Indie Sleaze' pantheon. Datarock's first album was filled with silly innuendo-laden indie disco tunes which was charming enough but this takes the band's goofy wit and squares that with a newly-developed nose for great, succinct pop songwriting via some heavy influence from Talking Heads and Thomas Dolby amongst other 80s new-wave greats. Perhaps fans of their DIY debut may be turned away thanks to the comparitive polish of Red, but the energy of the band remains and leads to an album full of dynamic energy.
