It's decent. I gravitate much more towards the more alive tracks like "The World's Biggest Paving Slab" and "R&B", probably because I'm just more attuned to . Other times I find the lyrics hard to get past. Lead singer Lily Fontaine cites Alex Turner as her biggest lyrical inspiration, and it's apparent throughout the album for sure, but the thing with that is the Arctic Monkeys' were making music that was fast and hooky and loud where there was ... read more
It's pretty good. Most of this alt-country indie rock stuff that's so everywhere right now does nothing for me but this one's pacey and more catchy than the median, and I like the way it builds.
Abysmal dogshit immediately followed by absolute cinema
Aha! I know this guy!! I know him from FIFA!!! Sam Battle/LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER was on the FIFA soundtrack back in 2015 with his old indie rock band ZIBRA and their song Goodbye Mondays. I did not like it. Battle's voice grated like hell and the lyrics were cheesy and awkward. So now here we are, with LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER's debut on Eurovision and... well, Battle's voice still grates like hell and the lyrics are even more cheesy and awkward, like he's written part of it and ... read more
Action Bronson, dude. A good lyric from Bronsoliño just leaves me with the giddiest, goofiest smile on my face. He's crafted this outrageous action-hero character over his almost two decades in the game that's batshit crazy and goofy as all hell but also genuinely captivating. His weaker albums are most certainly never for want of lyrical prowess, that much can be said. And speaking of, yeah this one didn't do it all that much for me. It's still Bronson, it's ... read more
At least the first wave of stomp-clap acts had some energy, man, come on. I cannot stand this guy's wispy fucking vocals.
I have to stop myself from yelling "oh my GOD SHUT THE FUCK UP" at my computer
A pretty tepid and dull remix, although probably wouldn't be so egregious if it wasn't of one of the most special songs of the 2000s.
Somebody's been listening to Nick Cave...
Yeah I'm not feeling this one so much. It's admirable that Yard Act are as fluid in their sound as they are but the intensity of this track feels unconvincing coming from James Smith and co. after an album of dancing around in trenchcoats.
I feel very much the same way about To Lose My Life by White Lies as I do about Royal Blood's debut album. I mean, yeah, it's alright, there's a couple of decent tunes and nothing really wrong with it, but there's no reason for me to ever want to listen to this as a full album again. Like, what do White Lies do that other bands don't? If I want the big soaring emotional climaxes of post-punk then I'll listen to Interpol or mid-80s Cure. If I want to dance I'll ... read more
Neat little lo-fi noise rock album. I did think some of the slower songs like Stutter kinda dragged on and didn't really capture my attention, although that may be because I tend to like slower songs less in general, so yeah that just might be more of a me thing. I really liked Get Away, and Operation, and The Wall, where they were doing a very catchy, very compressed, tightly packed indie rock thing which is definitely where this album stuck with me the most. If you're a fan of very ... read more
