I know I’ve given a lot of 60s to incelcore, but some of the lyrics on this album just don’t work for me. Don’t get me wrong there are some good songs here, but others have lyrics so literal and in-your-face that they take me out of it every time. I’m also starting to get really annoyed by all the songs with grown men bitching and whining about being lazy and dumb.
Random New Release pt 2
Gabriel Jacoby's debut EP was surprisingly enjoyable. Now I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to R&B, but I enjoyed this project a lot. I really liked his singing throughout the project, and the production on some of the songs is amazing. My favorite song is same sign, and my second favorite is probably Gutta Child. Overall this project made me want to look into more R&B projects.
Random New Release pt 1
I'm bored, so I'm going to listen to obscure projects and try to rate them. I’ll find projects to listen to by randomly scrolling through AOTY until a cover catches my eye. I’ll start with A Breath of Fresh Air by Shaesibble. I know nothing about this artist besides the fact she seems to be an AOTY user, so if you read this Hi.
Anyway, I really liked the guitar on A Call for Praise, but it was a little hard to tell what she was singing because ... read more
Sarah McLachlan Discography Deep Dive – 5/8
Afterglow by Sarah McLachlan has a strong start, a decent ending, but a boring middle. It opens with Fallen, my favorite song on the album, which sets you up to expect a pop focused album. Unfortunately, this pop driven sound feels dull and boring. While none of the songs are bad -each song has its own charm- the album never comes close to reaching the highs of her earlier work. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of her debut album ... read more
Sarah McLachlan Discography Deep Dive – 4/8
Very few artists have as many songs that I absolutely adore as Sarah McLachlan, and this album contains two of them: “Building a Mystery” and “Adia.” Naturally, I went into Surfacing very excited.
Surfacing starts with one of my all time favorite songs "Building a Mystery” I love everything about this track and in my opinion it is perfect and is what peak Sarah McLachlan looks like.
Next is “I Love ... read more
Sarah McLachlan Discography Deep Dive – 3/8
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy is simply beautiful and easily a step up from Solace. The singing, writing, and production are all noticeably stronger, making this feel like Sarah truly found her voice as an artist.
Fav Track: Possession and Fumbling towards Ecstasy
(Sorry This review is like 2 sentences and not much of a deep dive. I honestly haven’t been very inspired to write lately, and there are already plenty of amazing reviews out there ... read more
Sarah McLachlan Discography Deep Dive – 2/8
Solace is definitely a step up from her debut, both in songwriting and in overall sound. The production feels richer, the melodies are catchier, and the songs stick with you more.
My favorite tracks were probably Into the Fire, Path of Thorns, Black, and Shelter. Compared to the first album, the biggest improvement here is the songwriting and structure, everything feels more focused. While it improved on the poetic style of lyrics there were ... read more
Sarah McLachlan Discography Deep Dive – 1/8
Sarah McLachlan is my mom’s favorite artist, which is why I chose her for my first full discography deep dive. I have so many fond memories of my childhood spent on long road trips with her music playing in the background. That nostalgia is a big reason I wanted to start with her.
Going into this project, I had only heard Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, which is one of my favorite albums.
The first song on her debut, “Out of My ... read more
This was my first real taste of this kind of music, the more experimental stuff and I have to say, I really enjoyed it.
If anyone happens to read this, feel free to recommend other artists or albums that are also on the experimental side. I’d love to dive deeper into this kind of sound and I'm trying to diversify my music tastes.
If you're looking for chill alt-rock, this album is definitely worth a listen.
It explores themes like the drug trade and the struggle of not fitting in, weaving them throughout in the lyrics.
The album begins with a look at the history of the opium trade in China and ends with a portrayal of celebrities in New York battling addiction. Most of the songs had story telling which kept me engaged but a few tracks felt weak lyrically because it seemed like it was relying on cool sounding lines ... read more
I have really fond memories of watching the Virgins Club music video with my brother back in middle school. At the time, we thought it was the funniest thing ever. We would quote the lyrics constantly as inside jokes, and honestly, I think meme rap like this played a huge role in shaping my sense of humor today. Recently, while browsing Album of the Year to waste some time, I randomly thought of Mc Virgins, and to my surprise, I saw they had a new album in the works and I just knew that it was ... read more
This song is okay
I enjoy the production and one of the verses stood out to me. That said, it’s easily my least favorite of the four tracks released so far. Maybe it’ll grow on me by the time the full album drops, but for now, it feels more like a filler track.
I randomly came across this mixtape on the front page of Album of the Year and was intrigued by the cover art, so I decided to give it a listen. Going in, I knew absolutely nothing about the artist, but by the end, I felt like I had a solid sense of who Nxdia is. The mixtape does a great job of introducing you to her sound and artistic identity. That said, there were definitely a good amount of dull moments that left me very bored! Still, overall, I enjoyed the project and look forward to ... read more
I really enjoyed this album and am excited to explore more of their work. Every verse on the album is strong and well-crafted. My only critique is more of a personal preference. I found some of the choruses to be a bit weak. I'm not a big fan of the chanting-style choruses in general, so that part didn’t resonate with me. Overall, though, it’s a great album. :)
I stumbled upon this album while randomly browsing YouTube, and wow, I did not expect it to be this good. It's surprisingly enjoyable and genuinely charming. Hands down, this is the best meme rap album I've heard so far. It’s got humor, a unique vibe and it genuinely sound really good at some points too.
I was curious about what these guys were up to these days because I used to listen to their meme rap as a kid. I was pleasantly surprised by the direction their music is going in. Looking forward to the album!
What I don't like about this album is the horrorcore aspects. I think at times Eminem focuses on it too much. It makes some songs just feel weird and not in a fun way (example: Medicine Ball). The reason for the high score and why I love parts of this album are the topics of addiction and how it impacts his life. I feel like this album could of been a masterpiece if more of the horrorcore songs were like Same Song & Dance: a horrorcore song with a deep meaning that alludes to ... read more
