Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)

It's worse than I could have imagined. The album cover is embarrassing. He samples at least 6 previous tracks that most people are too young to remember, and then re-raps words over them so embarrassing that I can't believe he released it.

Hopefully this is it. This has been one of the most painful demises of any artist I've ever seen. If you count all 25 years of his career, he spent the first 3 years making a legacy, and the next 22 were spent either reflecting on that short ... read more

Generic, pointless, joyless, repetitive. It sounds like a Z-side.

He also continues to repeat the myth that he was a "pioneer" of hip-hop. The reality is that by the time Eminem dropped in 1999, Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Nelly were all over the charts. He didn't pioneer hip-hop. He came out just in time to benefit from all their hard work. Which makes it near sacrilege that he mentions Melle Mel (again).

It's this misunderstanding of his legacy that makes ... read more

I'm giving this a participation trophy (an extra half-star for effort). He actually sat there for 4 years, analyzed his career, and thought, "What people really want right now is a rehash of everything I've done for the last 25 years set to the beat of a 42 year-old Steve Miller Band song and a 22 year-old Me song."

This is the price an artist pays for living like a recluse, not social networking, not being open to the ever-evolving sound of modern music. What has become startlingly ... read more

"Some of us didn't have a choice, we had to review it. It's so bad I'm going to have to listen to Kendrick, Jay-z, and Nas albums for a month to get the stank out my ears. It's so embarrassingly bad I can't believe he released it. It's sad. He went another way partna. There ain't no coming back from that."

"@ADJ Yes, I am. Because I want the people who like this song to know that they are the reason one of the most talented pop stars of this generation sat there for 20 years thinking puns and pee jokes were enough."

"In all fairness, maybe Gen Z should. If a 51 year old dude is stalking you every 3 years, maybe it's time to at least file a restraining order on him."
On ZZF's review of Eminem - Houdini
"What's even sadder is that he outright stole the hook from Steve Miller. It's not even a twist on it. He just flat stole it."
On landodee's review of Eminem - Houdini
"It's 2024. We've had outright insurrections, riots, pandemics, and wars. No one's offended by R. Kelly pee jokes."
On Krewie's review of Eminem - Houdini
"It's a trainwreck. Imagine screaming for 5 years that you want hip-hop to be about something, that you're a real lyricist and have great things to say, and the only thing you come back with is raking your 51 year-old balls across a camera."
On Birch_TCS's review of Eminem - Houdini
"I'm just shocked that after 5 years of screaming for hip-hop with substance, he comes back with "And here are my balls.""

"I don't know if he ever was great. I think MTV might have played tricks on us. There were only 200 videos in rotation at any one time, and he was up against shit like the Backstreet Boys. I'm starting to wonder if he always sucked."

On JustWil's review of Eminem - Houdini
"Dempsy: A list of YouTube's biggest videos: The Bath Song Wheels on a Bus Justin Bieber Sugar As for Spotify: They lie about their spins and work with record companies. It's why you see a billion views on their albums but then look and see the dude only sold 500,000 of them. In short, people will watch any old trainwreck for free. But ain't nobody paying for this shit. You also have to remember he has about 1 million demented fans left who probably watched it 20-50 times a piece lol Ain't nobody else watching that shit"
On Kristofer's review of Eminem - Houdini
"Right, he sounds like a 51 year-old man trying to convince the cool kids he's still with it, not someone who has "controversial views." The entire last half of his career reeks of "Please like me again, I'll do anything.""

On SuperSpaceSheep's review of Eminem - Houdini

On CY_'s review of Eminem - Houdini
"We know it has no hateful intent, it's just the trillionth trans joke of the year. No shit. It's like trying to get in with the cool kids... at 51. At this point, he's the old man by a van trying to lure teenagers home with him. It's fucking creepy."
On Velocijoey's review of Eminem - Houdini
"It doesn't sound like he's having fun. It sounds like he hired a focus group to pick out internet cliches for him and then slapped it over two songs playing at once: Without Me and Steve Miller Band's Abracadabra. It is bizarre."
On houndiie's review of Eminem - Houdini
"Oh great, now he's going to write a double-album with 20 more R. Kelly pee jokes and three songs devoted to a negative Pitchfork review."
On skellylake's review of Eminem - Houdini
"Mediocre is mediocre. This is a 51 year-old making R. Kelly pee jokes. It's offensive but not for the reason he thinks."
