on its 10-year anniversary, i decided to return to what i believe to be one of the most influential edm albums of all time (perhaps in the top 5). Skin redefined the intersection between edm-inspired pop music in a time that was otherwise heavily influenced by house and dubstep. trap and future bass saw a large influx around this time. Flume was a known name in the scene but it wouldnt be until Skin that the mainstream had its eyes on him.

holy underrated.. another big hidden gem from this year for me. very much has its own flavor and identity while paying homage to the sounds of the past with Björk and Portishead coming to mind for me. sounds like a ritual held by a coven helped even more by the fact that it’s incredibly immersive with headphones. im curious what the album cover is implying as the sound here is very glacial and nocturnal sounding to me. definitely check this one out and dont let the low score and ... read more

2026 has been a great year for hidden gems so far, and Computaria Sound System is perhaps the shiniest of them all. quite simple on its surface, this album shows off its diversity of sampling prowess. with samples ranging from Skrillex to Michael Sembello to Pink Floyd, the energy is consistently kept high with heavy yet tasteful percussion. as a genre, mashup can be a bit hard to be taken seriously, but when the production and sound design are as strong as they are here, it is a lot easier to ... read more
THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE. is an ambitious feat that does a lot of things well. my favorite thing being how it blends intimacy and drama seamlessly. there are some songs that sound like they can be played in a local jazz lounge while others sound like otherworldly soundtracks to blockbusters. it may come off as a bit too much at points with its very on-the-nose lyrics. its meta. sometimes it works in its favors while sometimes it doesnt. it kind of reminds me of Little Simz's SIMBI in a ... read more
interested to see where this ends up for me and also the user score. very fun and id say has more lyrical depth than what is shown on the surface. the real standouts from this album come from the first half for me which is a bit unfortunate considering 5 of those were pre releases. the second half is solid but lacks a bit of personality for me. all this being said, its a great showing of what it sounds like to take more risks in pop music.. i mean like im pretty sure i heard complextro in YES ... read more
