It's a rainy night. You're sitting on the beach, alone, staring off into the distance, throwing little pebbles into the water and watching them bounce. You can hear the horns of distant boats, but you tune them out and close your ears to listen to the gentle crashing of the waves. They get louder and louder in your ears, no longer sounding like waves but more like the crackling of a fire that you cannot feel nor see.
