This is by far one of the greatest albums to bless my ears.
After a two year long album drought, some uneventful singles, and plenty of AI shilling to bridge that gap, going into Samurai felt like it could have been a great album or one of his worst. I'm glad he surpassed expectations.
One would expect an album with as strange of a concept to leave a strange taste, but as Lupe does, he leaves you more focused on the tungsten-dense lyrics that, without Genius, you'd have never ... read more
Coming back to this album again, I am still not disappointed by it.
Upon first listen almost 5 years ago I was pretty impressed with it, and my adoration for it has only grown every time I've listened to it since. The Off-Season is masterfully crafted from start to finish. A story of an artist that has reached their peak and doing everything in their power, to no avail, to reach that level of euphoria in himself and his fans again.
It's safe to say, in my opinion, that this album ... read more
I had to digest this album a couple of times before I allowed myself to put any serious thoughts about it online, because it was a pretty significant switch up from The Off-Season.
I honestly don't believe there is a single track on this album I'd consider a "skip"; however, I don't believe he one-upped himself from his last album. The Off-Season was just too tightly spun to outdo in my opinion.
The intent is definitely present, he was able to thoroughly express ... read more
I used to listen to glaive a lot, right around the time the music video for astrid dropped. I listened to cypress grove mostly as well as clock n dagger with ericdoa, but after a while I stopped listening to him pretty much entirely (proof free to view on my lastfm if you care that much). I wasn't really vibing with his new (at the time) releases and so my focus on him dropped. But in recent times, I've heard a lot of people hyping him up, and coincidentally, he just dropped a new ... read more
Doja Cat was on a great run with Planet Her and Scarlet, so I'm honestly quite disappointed with how I felt coming out of this listen.
Vie is... bland. It's a cheap '80s pop compilation. Planet Her and Scarlet had character and a unique feeling to me, but Vie just feels like a pale and unmotivated drop to fill the gap between now and her next true release. There's moments of clarity littered through the album, but I didn't find myself staying engaged with it ... read more
cashing in on his biggest hit by making a second part four years later, then putting a song with misleading accounts of his relationship with rxseboy because they cut ties in the same ep is crazy.
the ai covers are also starting to get on my nerves. the lack of talent throughout the creation of these songs is devastating, because for a long period of time this guy was one of my favorite artists. and nowadays he continues to take L after L. I don't think he's ever gonna come back from ... read more
