J. Cole - The Off-Season
100

Coming back to this album again, I am still not disappointed by it.

Upon first listen almost 5 years ago I was pretty impressed with it, and my adoration for it has only grown every time I've listened to it since. The Off-Season is masterfully crafted from start to finish. A story of an artist that has reached their peak and doing everything in their power, to no avail, to reach that level of euphoria in himself and his fans again.

It's safe to say, in my opinion, that this album ... read more

J. Cole - The Fall-Off
78

I had to digest this album a couple of times before I allowed myself to put any serious thoughts about it online, because it was a pretty significant switch up from The Off-Season.

I honestly don't believe there is a single track on this album I'd consider a "skip"; however, I don't believe he one-upped himself from his last album. The Off-Season was just too tightly spun to outdo in my opinion.

The intent is definitely present, he was able to thoroughly express ... read more

glaive - Y'all
88

I used to listen to glaive a lot, right around the time the music video for astrid dropped. I listened to cypress grove mostly as well as clock n dagger with ericdoa, but after a while I stopped listening to him pretty much entirely (proof free to view on my lastfm if you care that much). I wasn't really vibing with his new (at the time) releases and so my focus on him dropped. But in recent times, I've heard a lot of people hyping him up, and coincidentally, he just dropped a new ... read more

Doja Cat - Vie
50

Doja Cat was on a great run with Planet Her and Scarlet, so I'm honestly quite disappointed with how I felt coming out of this listen.

Vie is... bland. It's a cheap '80s pop compilation. Planet Her and Scarlet had character and a unique feeling to me, but Vie just feels like a pale and unmotivated drop to fill the gap between now and her next true release. There's moments of clarity littered through the album, but I didn't find myself staying engaged with it ... read more

Powfu - tell me your feelings and I won't tell you mine, Pt.3

cashing in on his biggest hit by making a second part four years later, then putting a song with misleading accounts of his relationship with rxseboy because they cut ties in the same ep is crazy.

the ai covers are also starting to get on my nerves. the lack of talent throughout the creation of these songs is devastating, because for a long period of time this guy was one of my favorite artists. and nowadays he continues to take L after L. I don't think he's ever gonna come back from ... read more

genuinely what happened? you always talked about how the label made you put out corny pop music that you didn't enjoy, and now you're putting out corny pop music that we don't enjoy. 2018-2021 was clearly an era we won't ever get back.

Lupe Fiasco - Samurai
100

This is by far one of the greatest albums to bless my ears.

After a two year long album drought, some uneventful singles, and plenty of AI shilling to bridge that gap, going into Samurai felt like it could have been a great album or one of his worst. I'm glad he surpassed expectations.

One would expect an album with as strange of a concept to leave a strange taste, but as Lupe does, he leaves you more focused on the tungsten-dense lyrics that, without Genius, you'd have never ... read more

¥$ - VULTURES 2

what the actual fuck happened to my goat bro... going from Come to Life and No Child Left Behind to this nonsense..? He needs to either lock in or just retire at this point.

Ty carries Ye throughout this whole thing. I'm embarrassed FOR him. Who told Ye it was a good idea to rip 530 off youtube? I have a higher quality version that's been in my phone since the Donda 2 era. Why are half of his verses made like he had one take and he hasn't slept in two weeks? This is actually so ... read more

ScHoolboy Q - BLUE LIPS
63

The first time I listened to this I enjoyed it, but I was already really tired so I missed the last few tracks.

Today, I came back to it with an open mind and open ears since I hadn't heard it in full in almost 2 months. And unfortunately, it didn't grow on me as I anticipated.

Although the production is high quality, it doesn't strike (my) ears like that a lot of the time. Lyrically, there are good moments, but songs like Foux make me question my sanity just a little bit.

Maybe this is an ... read more

Noname - Room 25
100

Although an album not necessarily supplied with heaps of replayability [as a whole*], Room 25 sets a high standard for how to do jazz rap right. Noname set her sight to the skies with her debut, and from start to finish, she flew beyond her goals.

Such an incredible album does not deserve to go so unnoticed at the global scale.

Today, I can confidently say this is a 100/100. Noname accomplished a lot with this album, and it's yet another proof that the best music out there isn't always the ... read more

Billie Holiday - Solitude
92

I am glad Solitude (song) went viral on TikTok because if it hadn't, I'd never have heard of Billie Holiday or given her music the time out of my day.

Plain and simple, this is incredible. She is an incredibly experienced singer and she glides over the instrumental like silk. I definitely need to check out what else she has to offer.

92/100

J. Cole - Might Delete Later
70

It's quite a step back from The Off-Season, however he still didn't put up bad numbers either.

His flow takes a big hit with this one, which is a surprise because he'd gotten in great tune with his rapping on The Off-Season. Lyrically it's less impactful, his delivery isn't as bright, and sonically it's less consistent. Though, for a mixtape, I suppose that's to be expected. It's not as thorough of a process.

I appreciate the steps towards working with other producers like Alchemist and ... read more

Doja Cat - Scarlet 2 CLAUDE
68

I'm glad this was all saved for a deluxe, because this would've harmed the original album quite a bit. It is a bit more varied, especially with songs like PISS. Speaking of, it's not a bad song, and it does what it's supposed to pretty well, but it's just not the vibe.

Not Doja's best work by any means, but it's a return to her just having fun with what she's creating.

68/100. This is based solely off the Deluxe tracks. I gave the standard version an 86/100.

First song had me hype

Then it fell off hard from there😭 it's not horrible but i probably won't go back to more than 2 songs

"@HudsonMusic lol ok bro. A third of his response is literally unrelated to the music, and another big part of it is him upset that Cole said something he didn't agree with. If this is just being "critical" to you then I have nothing else to say to you."
On TheLawAbider's review of J. Cole - Might Delete Later
"This is your first and only j cole rating-- yet you're calling him overrated, boring, and using memes that died years back. A third of your “review” is you complaining with the latter, and most of it is spent obsessing over this kendrick beef. Thank you for at least admitting to everyone you don't know what you're talking about and that you're only here to spread negativity."
On Mazzi's review of Sarcastic Sounds - Haunt You Forever
"I hate to agree with you but I do. He's an absolutely wonderful producer and he proves that on this album and with his catalog, be that his own or the beats he's made for the likes of Lil Wayne. But his vocals aren't there yet, even though they have drastically improved since he began singing on his own music a few years ago. At least he's confident enough now to put his raw vocals onto tracks instead of editing them into oblivion I guess."
