Fun fun fun. So damn fun. This album is such a wicked blend of rock, country, indie and god knows what else, and yet Geese have been able to tame this concoction into a cohesive set of tracks, developing and maintaining a sound that engages you from the first song until the last. A special shout-out has to go to the title track for gifting us with one of the most enthralling vocal performances I've heard in a very long time.
The more sombre tone of 'Ants from up there' took me longer to engage with than the immediate energy of 'For the first time', but wow does it pay off. Here BCNR only continue to improve their song composition, producing soundscapes that build, layer and swell into immense peaks before fading into the next track. On first listen this album comes off as slow and monotonous, but on repeated listens I have to say this ones a grower. Admittedly I've always been a bigger fan of MGMT's more energetic tracks, especially those on 'Congratulations'. However, the intricate touches within this collection of tracks is so absorbing when you start picking up on them.
