This is an album I absolutely love and have enjoyed for years and years, but it never occurred to me to review it on here, I guess.
What can I say? This album has a bit of every part of hip hop inside it; and it's a great album.
Everyone has already said what there is to say about this project; it's a classic. Done.
Favorite tracks: Drive Slow, We Major, Late
Spiritual successor to Late Registration. If anyone has a fixation for the College trilogy, this is the next record to check out.
Some of the cleanest 80's sample-based production on any rap album. Possibly the most underrated rap album of all time.
Favorite tracks: It's My Turn, To the Max, Gettin' Paid
Incredible production but the rapping definetely falls short. I wish a more talented group got these insane beats, all things considered.
White Dress by Kanye.
Unbeknownst to the audience, or even to Kool & the Gang, their rendition of "N.T." in this set would prove to be one of the most legendary samples of all time. Regardless the live performance was an entertaining listen.
It's OK, but it does seem like they were trying to make something purposefully forgetful. No extremely solid tracks, and likewise nothing inherently "bad." I expected more, but at the same time, both acts are reaching an age where they will not be able to replicate the peaks of their careers.
