this album has so many hits but aaa powerline is triple platinum in my brain… the thumping beat, ethereal synth pads, personal yet surreal lyricism… its one of my favourite songs ever. the whole album feels like a conscious state altering, limbo-like void and the repetitive nature of the songs reinforce that “flying and sinking at the same time” feeling. its v beautiful……
a mystical brew of grooves with a spiritual touch. the warmth of Whiting’s harp evokes a dreamlike, torrid landscape. love the laidback groove in “facing the sun”; “rite of passage” features a similar riff but has a boom bap flavour. fun listen
“elementary physiology” are 2 of the most beautiful tracks ive ever heard. in part 1, the mellow riffs on the fender rhodes has a “heavy fluidity”, showing the water rippling as the listener wades across the lake on the cover. a bright melodic synth echoes with a soft staccato — like the glimmer of the sun on the lake’s surface. part 2 builds on this scenery with guitars, subdued drums, and sharper synth lines.
