underscores - U

she's magic. she always has been. this is the kind of album that goes on to inspire the next generation of bedroom sound designers. this album comes from a pioneer of the hyperpop space, and those roots are very visible(especially in the songwriting), but this album goes from dancey to those softer hyperpop and digicore elements with ease. it's funky at times. very much like my favorite album of 2025, ninajirachi's 'i love my computer,' this album will get asses out of ... read more

Mitski - Nothing's About to Happen to Me
86

im a big fan of the whole y'allternative thing, mitski does it very well - this is my first time listening to a mitski album! i never ever ever want to be famous. thanks for making me feel this way mitski

Power Snatch - EP1
80

the songs are great, there's a very diy vibe to the vocals but the production is very grand.. i don't know why, but the difference between the very bedroom indie alt-pop vocals and the very high level production kinda threw me off. no clue if that makes sense but it was kinda "immersion breaking" LMAO but miss yelyah williams always delivers and that nitpick aside, i'm very excited to hear what comes of this project moving forward. 3 bucks for this was kinda steep tho ... read more

Softcult - When a Flower Doesn’t Grow
89

a long admirer of softcult's shoegazy-postpunky-indie vibe, i've been looking forward to this for a long time and i was not at all disappointed. more impressive is their ability to stand ten toes down for what they believe in on every single track they put out. this album scratches an itch i've had for a while. it's not a grand slam, but i think softcult's never been striving for perfection. they get their message across and do it with incredible flair and style. if ... read more

Poppy - Empty Hands
81

in some ways, poppy has taken elements from her work as far back as X, and refined them. is there such thing as too refined though? i felt that way at points throughout the album.

it feels like it comes down to the production i fear. her performance is stellar, as usual, but i think the elements of each song were almost mishandled. i thoroughly enjoyed the album, regardless, but i'd like to see more I Disagree and a bit less Negative Spaces the next time poppy dips into metalcore or alt ... read more

Youth Novel - I Went Through This Experience Smiling
78

a soundscape that takes you straight back to 2006, listening to underoath on your ipod shuffle in your dark bedroom. the album is cohesive, not a second is wasted in terms of storytelling! however something left me wanting just a little bit more.

daine - Make It Right
92

i loved the shapeless era do not get me wrong, but this is daine. this is the kind of shit i was listening to daine for in 2020. we are so fucking back.

Suzie True - How I Learned To Love What’s Gone
75

you can't say it's bad, it just feels very safe. to be fair, a lot of the tracks have a home in my playlists, because i know i'll never hear one of these songs and go "ugh not right now" and that works. i didn't realize bandcamp friday was tomorrow and bought it last night. sorry guys.

Retirement Party - Nothing To Hear Without A Sound
80

this is one of those ones where i was deep on a bandcamp scroll and made the purchase without really listening. once i had the time to listen to it i was blown away, fantastic EP and excited to hear more!!!

Scowl - Are We All Angels
78

not the scowl we are all used to, but the previous EP was a great way to ease us into this new sound. some great listens here, but just not for me at times. fantasy, fleshed out, and suffer the fool will be forever bangers. forever.

Oklou - choke enough
100

it's going to take a lot to dethrone this as my album of the year. not much time left to do it either, and the deluxe is shaping up to be unstoppable

Post Heaven - The Space That's in Between
90

honestly not what i expected when this showed up available to pre-purchase on bandcamp a while back. i wasn't crazy into post heaven at the time, and the only track of theirs that saw any heavy play from me was Far From Me. what a pleasant surprise this EP was, from beginning to end. End Alone is such a beautiful song and the way it leads into basic fault sent me into heaven

flatroom !! - You Will Only Get Older
95

i dont really know how all to explain how i feel about this album, it makes me feel a lot. i don't even need is up there with my best songs of the year. the production is amazing, from high-flying hyperpop and hypertronica to grounded, beautiful acoustic and soft emo influences. mmmmm

First Day Back - Forward
90

feels like something i would have been listening to on my ipod almost 20 years ago. it's something that i'm listening to on my ipod today. listening to this on a streaming service is doing it a disservice this has to be listened to on an mp3 player of some sort with super shitty headphones. what a blast TO the past from a band that's kicking ass in the present. in love.

Pool Kids - Easier Said Than Done
80

this album made me feel like listening to paramore as a kid, it helps that the lead singer has range as impressive as that of hayley williams. this album, in style, has more range than many others in the space but it's not all for me and that's cool. what is for me is really, really for me

Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer
100

0 skips, because if you do you'll miss an important transition. nina continues to amaze me with how she can make straight dance music make me feel so much. art is so alive

Can of Bliss - MYRTLE BROADWAY & THE BIG BANG THEORY
90

a blend of emo, hyperpop, and multiple genres in the edm umbrella that makes me tingle very good. always fun to have guitarists in this space and i think can deserves some of the recognition that other hyperalt artists like 100 gecs have been getting over the years
