a seriously incredible record! i used to hate on radiohead for no reason, but listening to their stuff has opened my eyes to how good music can be.
highlights: bodysnatchers, wf/a, reckoner, videotape
lowlights: none (although faust arp is the weakest on the record)
short, sweet, and great songs. sounds like camp outtakes to me in the best way possible
highlights: all of them
lowlights: none
after the mess that was atavista, this album brings everything you could possibly want from music ever and puts it into one album. the versatility gambino has is absolutely unmatched. its insane how good this guy is at doing everything. probably the best way to close out a discography.
highlights: talk my shit, yoshinoya, no excuses, running around
lowlights: can you feel me, we are god, happy survival
i want to like this... i really do. but i literally cannot. 8 or so songs out of the 11 song tracklist are either boring or just bad to listen to. ive listened to this over and over trying to get it to stick but i cannot. his worst project and it IS NOT even close
highlights: final church, algorhythm
lowlights: LFBF, sweet thang
re-review: this album is a lot better after multiple listens. my original rating of a 69 was NOT it, as theres many hits on here. it may not be his best, but its really good. jimmy cooks still carries the album.
highlights: jimmy cooks, falling back, a keeper
lowlights: liability, massive
not the worst thing ive heard, but certainly not the best. this 3 drop release just feels like iceman and 2 b-sides albums. not the best but theres some highs.
highlights: road trips, which one
lowlights: cheetah print (not even that bad)
i remember, a few years back, a friend told me that this album (and band) was pretty good, and i should listen to it. i truly, at the time, had no idea how truly "good" this record would be. each and every single track serves its purpose to its absolute peak. the tracks, separated into parts, belong in their place. this record has zero flaws. none. everything makes it what it is. without even one track on this album, it wouldn't be slow deep and hard. the same friend also told me ... read more
a bti-to-kauai adjacent switch in genres, and gambino does it perfectly. i personally enjoy his previous albums over this one, but that doesn't disregard the absolute masterclass this album is
highlights: riot, california
lowlights: none
kauai is a complete 180 from the intense because the internet, but in an amazing way. the masterpieces donald glover creates are top tier
highlights: all of the exception of 3005 remix
lowlights: 3005 remix
the album that introduced me into rabbit hole that was childish gambino.
this album is easily one of if not his best. a very high quality increase from camp. theres so many great songs from this album and many great moments. this isnt even mentioning the screenplay that goes along with this. oh boy, this is amazing
highlights: 99% of the album
lowlights: urn
this album is very very great! i think it is VERY overhated and a lot of the songs are well made!
very mixed. replayability isnt the best, but the 7 song tracklist does definitely prove that you dont need a bunch of songs to make a good lp
