Lots of this album sounds good, but never really beyond that, aside from maybe the opener: ‘Until I Die’. Somehow its 44 minute runtime feels like a bit of a slog, largely being reduced to an assortment of songs that don’t differentiate much from one another. And even the few that do, like ‘Motherfather’, don’t excel much in what they’re attempting to do.

I honestly just wish MG stuck more with the atmospheric and minimalistic sounds that they ... read more

The Sludgiest of Sludge Metal

I think of this as “sleep paralysis: the album”. It’s hard to explain, but listening to this feels like a heavy weight is pushing down on your chest and you are just forced to endure it, while at the same time, a parade of drugged-up lunatics dances frantically in the background. That is what this album sounds like. It is dense, it is raw, it is heavy. It is everything you could want in a sludge metal album. I don’t find myself going back ... read more

I seriously can’t wait to see what the band makes next. More than half a year later, this remains my favourite project that has been released this year, and it’s not even that close. ‘Hands of Man’ is just beyond gorgeous, with other highlights like ‘The Wheel’ (minus the a cappella section) and ‘I’m Happy You’re Here’. The quintessential breakcore album

The amount of technicality and interesting use of breaks in this is just astounding. I really can't understand how you can make stuff like this. And I mean it when I say this is the peak of breakcore, and may remain so for a long long time ahead. It's a shame Venetian Snares hasn't made any other albums that have quite reached this level of originality and piqued my interest in the same way this one did.

'Epidermis' may still be the ... read more

His weakest album yet I think. I’ll give it a few more listens and maybe my rating will change, maybe not. I’ve gotta say though, this album version of don’t rely on men is much better overall. Why remove Freaky though???

really good shit. very eclectic and constantly interesting. just a shame that the song with mike on was perhaps the weakest one.
