This is some other-level shit, and P.O.S. is redefining what hip hop can be.

It's a great synthesis, merging verbally dexterous, rapid-fire syllable-spitting and a nimble sense of rhythm with lyrics that are clever, self-reflective, and full of sharp-edged political statements.

POS will end up on almost every year-end hip-hop list.

Never Better is a diverse and inventive effort that isn’t afraid to color outside of the lines. P.O.S. has raised the bar again.

P.O.S has learned to broaden his sound more than ever.

From front to back, the album's an acquired taste, and even if it's not the big paradox that an album mixing punk ethics with rap virtuosity might risk becoming, it doesn't have a universal appeal, especially for heads leery of anything that might approach the misnomer of "emo rap."

Between this brutal bleating and the general anger of the production, the record is dank and punishing on the ears -- probably just as P.O.S. intended, but still a step or two shy of the sonic maturity he so yearns to lend the subgenre.

Consequence of Sound
As the lyrical themes blossomed and rappers began addressing the pressing issues of our society, the music was able to remain loose.

While this record certainly isn't going to be for everyone, as somebody that has grown up with a love for punk and hip hop it's great to hear proof that the two aren't mutually exclusive.

NME
Even if it gets a bit bedroom experimentalist, POS is Buck 65 with balls, and has more ideas and soul in one cut than an entire Fiddy wet shit.

Purexed and the title track are 2 of the best experimental hip hop songs I've ever heard

among one of the most underrated hip-hop albums i've ever heard, holy shit. the production on this is absolutely immaculate and all the hooks and choruses hit like nothing else. "purexed" had my mind blown first time through, not to even mention the downright incredible "low light low life". the title track, "never better" is also RIDICULOUSLY good. not a single dull part on this thing, even on the """misses""" if you can even ... read more
