Any record with a Rickenbacker so prominently displayed is going to get at least a 5 point boost, LOL! But seriously Eric and thus debut were one of the great and unique voices of the Stiff band of misfits. And now he’s married to the brilliant Amy Rigby. The whole wide world indeed!

Has it's moments particularly the opener 'reconnez cherie' which is a good pop new wave song, other tracks of note are 'whole wide world' and 'grown ups', 'waxworks' is distinctive and 'rags and tatters' goes all Benny hill. The rest of the record isn't quite at the same level although it is interesting

A solid batch of songs for his debut. Reconnez Cherie and Telephoning Home have very pop choruses. There Isn't Anything Else is Buzzcocks single type rock. Whole Wide World is a pub rock standard. All of the tracks have something about them. It's got a fun feel throughout, with saxophone solos appearing on most tracks. Rags and Tatters even slips into the Benny Hill theme at one point.
