Taking cues from hip hop, alt-pop, emo and electro, 'Solutions' explores K. Flay’s recent swagger out of the grasp of darkness.
It’s all enjoyable, but these Solutions don’t feel radical compared to recent, more adventurous records by kindred spirits such as Billie Eilish or Lorde. Nonetheless, it lends its own welcome light.
This is pretty one-dimensional, run-of-the-mill pop music. Really, my first thought was that this sounds like female-led Imagine Dragons.
The songs blend far too much to the point that I could listen to this ten times and I would never really know any of the tracks from the last. This is one of a few albums that I will straight up call boring. There's nothing much that makes it stand out. There's a few points of really solid and heartfelt writing, but many of the songs don't go anywhere. This is unbelievable considering the album it was following up being such a solid entry K.Flay's discography. Even when this album dropped in 2019 I didn't give it much care. One of, if not my favourite album of all time. People say that it's mediocre pop but I got a lot more out of it than that. Songs like DNA and Not In California are incredible works that really made the album for me, the first because it struck a really personal note with me, and the second because it slaps HARD.
The only song I like is Not in California cause the song structure actually makes sense all the rest suck...
