When dubsteb was new and flashy in the US it was looking for ways to separate itself from their British and Jamaican Pioneers. One of the unique ways to standout in the amorphous scene was to really lean into those transformer mechanical sounds. I think the first full-length "dubstep" album that I listened to when I was 10-12 years old. Definitely heaps of nostalgia connected to all of these tracks, I remember just playing on my laptop in my room, listening to these and the remixes, such fun times. Compared to the output that would superceed it in the coming months (and even the Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP from a year prior), this project feels quite dated. Frankly, though, I think it pretty accurately showcases those growing pains in the most interesting of ways; by being a project which is clearly halfway between the rapidly-establishing brostep genre and that older uk dubstep sound, and if you listen to Excision's contemporaries that was pretty apparent for many producers.
