The whole thing could’ve buckled under the weight of blind passion, were it not erected by the best rock songwriter and vocalist of the past three decades. There may be no cocks left in this symphony, but Devin Townsend just dicked over every other metal band. ‘Crowning achievement’ is too small an accolade.

Judging by his current ‘reduced’ work rate, it seems unlikely that The Moth will be his swan song. But if it were to be his last grand statement, it’s a brilliantly bonkers work with which to bow out.

"The Moth" is intricate, challenging and demands to be listened to in its overwhelming entirety. It will delight many, while simultaneously confusing the hell out of many more.

had some truly amazing moments, but overall it felt rather bloated and I didn't like how quiet the vocals were
The Moth is a very ambitious statement from the ever-present Devin Townsend. With it's nearly 70 minute, 24 track runtime, it's clear he was very much swinging for the fences with this one. And I do think that for the most part, it pays off. The orchestration is truly excellent at times, and there are plenty of moments that really drive home the sprawling, epic feel this goes for. Even as a die hard fan this was too much. Has some extremely bright spots and a conceptual masterpiece is hidden with in the bloated tracklist but it’s too big for its own good unfortunately. The ambition could’ve led to something truly incredible and it was at times but man was it hard to stomach. I won’t be relistening to this although I appreciate what he sets out to do. (5/10)

Very excited for this! I didn't catch the live shows so I'm super keen to hear what this sounds like! I'm glad Devin is still tying to put out such ambitious material so late into his career. I wasn't totally sold on the album cover at first, but I get the intent behind what it's going for.
