With more instruments than ever before, Workers’ Playtime follows on from Talking to the Taxman nicely, with further evolution evident with the addition of a full band. Where the previous album had a fair mix of tracks between fuller band songs and the ‘one man and his guitar’ style he first became known for, Workers’ Playtime leans much more into a full backing track, meaning it sticks out the most among his 80s output.

One of the times it was worth judging a book by its cover. This can be classified as a historical document, a look back at a time when communism vs capitalism was still a major conflict in our society. But besides the political messages, this is a tight folk album.
