With few exceptions, the songwriting tends to be fairly frothy. Still, I'd take a dose of Resident Alien any day over yet another cold dish of serious, mystically dour, faux-acid rock Doors/Led Zep wannabes.

This album is fucking weird, dude.
It's definitely a case of the record label saying "Put the hit single first on the album because no one's gonna want to listen to the rest of this shit". In The Meantime is a beautiful, beautiful piece of 90s alt rock, the baseline is absolutely sublime and the whole song just feels so complete and shimmery and wonderful.

one of the most underrated albums i've ever listened to. the vocals are so unique for this type of band and i just feel like every song has been made perfectly to fit the album. spacehog have always seemed very weird to me, but i can't deny that this album is great in my eyes
Resident Alien does peak with it's opening song, In The Meantime, but that is not to say the rest of the album completely falls flat. This is more an album you take singles off. Cruel to Be Kind and The Last Dictator were fun songs while Spacehog was definitely the weakest without the 10 minutes of silence on the final track to drag it down.
