Alas, the nuance that infuses a good chunk of Something to Be eventually gives way to the hammy, overemotive gestures we’ve come to expect from Thomas.

AllMusic
This isn't edgy work by any means -- and for as hooky and chorus-driven as it is, it's music that becomes memorable through repeated plays, never quite catching hold upon the first listen -- but it's more colorful and well-constructed than a lot of contemporary mainstream rock in the mid-2000s, and it's arguably more appealing than Matchbox Twenty's earnest guitar rock.

Even Matchbox-ish numbers like "Ever the Same" sound fresh in this new context.

...Something to Be is rated ''Above Average'', in my opinion, due to it being 54.17% relistenable.

Nerd Breakdown:

Out of 12 Total Songs -
3 were Skipped (Each equals 0.0)
5 were Good Album Songs (Each equals 0.5)
4 were Liked Songs I would go out of my way to listen to again. (Each equals 1.0)

I then use this formula:

Don't care what anyone says this album showed up magically on my ipod nano as a 6 year old exploring music and it has great songs on it. Nostalgia out of the way and I can acknowledge parts of this album are extremely mid but I care about it.

Some notably good songs surrounded by some notably mid songs.
