They do reach for the stars on Era ... and they end up shining just like the brightest of them.
With the reformations of some of its leading lights, shoegaze is suddenly back in fashion, but with Era, Echo Lake are walking their own dreamlike path.
It’s fair to say that Era is definitely not cut from a different cloth than the debut, but it is at least bold enough to try wearing the influences in a slightly different fashion.
To my liking, Echo Lake's 'Era' is less dense than, say, School of Seven Bells. Yet there is a lot of recording space filled on each track. This style of composition ends up a bit muddy to my ears. All in all, I wouldn't flock to your favorite vendor to acquire this recording, which is now 11 years old. Frankly, if this were the soundtrack of my dreams, I'd probably shove a cotton swab deep into my ear canal, or turn it off and play something less dense. Peace. - ... read more
