Forrest Frank (aka Forrest.) actually led me to discovering his band, Surfaces, and not vice versa. While Forrest. became a side project for Frank's more melodic sounds after his band took off, the ideas he presents on Effortless could breathe new life into the Surfaces name, which has felt tired as of late. Almost didn’t listen to this because of how much I hated the last Surfaces record, but this record actually shows a lot of improvement over the Surfaces formula. It’s still not great, but it is headed in the right direction, and hopefully some of the ideas here are adapted Into whatever Surfaces does next.
Effortless by Forrest is one of my go to comfort albums, the kind of project that just settles your mind the moment it starts. The production is soft and warm, his vocals feel super calming, and every track has this peaceful, breezy vibe that’s easy to fall into. It’s not trying to be flashy. It just feels genuine and comforting, which is exactly why it hits so well for me.
