An incredible, punchy blend of pop and punk rock. From start to finish this album is just non-stop fun. Except it’s also really sad. Once you look past the exciting and bombastic music and dive deeper into the lyrics, this album can became quite a downer. I didn’t think I would ever give a soundtrack a 100 but this one deserves it. Absolutely incredible. Lena Raine perfectly depicts a story of struggling with and overcoming anxiety. Some moments of this album are so mind-blowingly overwhelming they cover my body with goosebumps. It also leaves me with a weird craving for strawberries.
Almost didn’t listen to this because of how much I hated the last Surfaces record, but this record actually shows a lot of improvement over the Surfaces formula. It’s still not great, but it is headed in the right direction, and hopefully some of the ideas here are adapted Into whatever Surfaces does next.
