Rachel Grimes sets the bar high and leaps upward with the confidence of a gazelle on 'The Clearing.' The album is a great accomplishment but suffers from a few technical blunders involving the piano and the recording volume, and it's the volume that distresses me most. The album reminds me of the arrival of loudness over clarity as the recording industry decided that ambient sound was a waste of time. Uggh.
