It absolutely amazes me how well this album still holds up even after almost 20 years. It's aged as gracefully as an expensive bottle of the purest chardonnay, and its crossover appeal is not hard to be ignored either. Seriously, pretty much everyone in my family loves at least two or three songs from this album, even including my parents, mind you, and they tend to scoff at this kind of music.

As far as nu-metal goes, Linkin Park are a real diamond in the rough. The pure unbridled energy, angst and anger displayed on this album is truly something to be admired.
The instrumentation here has aged surprisingly well, given the whole scene that Linkin Park belonged to has been generally seen as dated and corny by most. It knows exactly when to hold itself back, and when to punch you in the face.
