The central crux of Black Metal as a genre is Norse culture, primarily their art and a transmutation of its themes into a contemporary age. The misanthropy, fear, and death that resulted from ancient life in Northern European nature inadvertently led the themes of Black Metal, but what I find so interesting is how the Russian stake in the genre was never fully fleshed out despite Slavic conditions largely resembling a more greyscale version of Norway.
