Perhaps this was not the best introduction I could have received to Born Ruffians, but based on “PULP,” I’m not too impressed with what they have to offer. For a veteran band, “PULP” sounds like the work of amateurs, aiming alternately for kooky, jagged rock edge, and festival-ready quasi-indie music, but falling short in execution at either extreme, and failing to reconcile them into something cohesive.
