Mickey Guyton - Remember Her Name
Genre: Country Pop
Country: US
Final Verdict: 70% (Very Good Album)
Yearly Ranking: 131th / 850
Highlight: Love My Hair (added to my 2021 best of)
Made me think of:
Maren Morris
Alicia Keys
Kelsea Ballerini
I love Mickey’s personality and voice. This album is packed with country-pop tunes. Most of them are good but nothing exceptional. I think she shines in the most raw moments like “Dancing In The Living Room”, “Black Like Me” and “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?”.
Black female artist singing country music is no ordinary, I'm not trying to be offensive but the genre itself in general is very white. A powerful and strong voice resembles Carrie Underwood but she has her own style. Speaking of the album, it succeed to channel Miss Guyton her own thought and feeling. It's definitely an inspirational uplifting record, a big accomplishment to her, a genuine blessing to us.
