Subtract the mixed and muddled messages, and Code Red is satisfactory.
Code Red is a well packaged collection of songs, but falls short on containing anything on the same calibre of Monica's iconic hit "The Boy Is Mine."
'Code Red' comes with the promise of refueling the arguably mild mainstream R&B scene of the mid-10s. While it doesn't live up to that, Monica presents a solid set with a good amount of decent songs. Though those lack the charm and captivating melodies of her previous material, the production often comes to the rescue. Monica makes a bold statement with this album as she pretty much says that R&B music is in danger and in "code red", the purpose of this record is to help bring back the power that the genre had in previous years. Although I commend her for this clear purpose I feel like she fails to live up to it, as some of the tracks fall flat, are generic or even sometimes straight up odd.
