A decent listen with a chill country jazz vibe. Nothing really stood out lyrically or musically, but it’s relaxing enough. It's pleasant background music.
This is basically classic honky tonk, but rebranded as a modern and elegant reimagining that you’d expect to hear in a late-night lounge or speakeasy. It was kind of cool at first, but it ran dry pretty quickly. By the end, I was honestly just begging for it to be over.
I can understand the hate for this slightly cheesy, honky-tonk style of country music. However, k.d. Lang has such a unique and powerful voice that I can completely overlook any amount of kitschy-ness in this album. She switched from low crooning to powerful almost yodels and it's mesmerizing. The actual backing tracks are pretty standard, slightly jazzy with a smooth bounciness to them. It's nothing phenomenal, but it's so much fun and I really enjoyed listening to it
