Mabel ... retains the tender, thoughtful quality that infused her debut album High Expectations (2019), and this makes for an impressively nuanced flow.

Telling the story of a night out from carefree beginning to heartbreak close, the singer’s second album is a heady mix of house, synthpop and disco-tinged bangers.

Second album from London-based singer features some great songs but struggles to shake off a confused, thrown-together aesthetic.

This is music that performs confidence, that uses confidence as a genre rather than embodying it in any convincing sense.

Nothing on About Last Night… sounds particularly fresh or original, even for a record that supposedly draws inspiration from a previous era of pop.

While many of the right components are present, About Last Night... feels like a plate of empty calories; struggling to reach a sense of genuine empowerment on account of its overstuffed production and lyrics that are vague to the point of meaninglessness.

These songs are fun for a summer fling but not worthy of a long-term relationship.
