On my first listen, aspects like Bonnie Bramlett’s backing vocals and the brass instruments threw me off as I was expecting something more similar to Cream or Derek and the Dominos.
Revisiting this album with all of this in mind made me appreciate this album for what it is and it quickly became a favorite of mine, while the track list is not perfect by any means, some of the highlights like ‘Blues power’, ‘Bottle of red wine’, ‘let it rain’ and even the ... read more

Clapton only made one stone cold great album and that was 'Layla...' this though may be his second best he dropped the blues in a bag and tried on some pop sheen mixed with rolling rock and even folky funk. 'Slunky' is a slinky funk instrumental opener ,horns poppin', 'blues power' and '...bottle of red wine' are other standouts, there are throwaway enjoyable filler like '...lovin' me...' and a crisply played acoustic ballad in ... read more
