Ridiculously smooth, IX already feels like an iconic record.
Having taken this familiar musical blueprint and expanded it, HOST have created nine compositions that contain depth and hide layers which will reward repeat listening, and, in time, could make IX a cult classic comparable to its older brother.
While the original Host album was linear in sound and wore its influences on its sleeves, IX is an eclectic blend of 80s goth tones and melodies, electro-rock hooks, and a classic Paradise Lost doom aura that puts an interesting twist on a classic formula.
Seemingly inspired by Depeche Mode Host is a side-project of Paradise Lost members (which is why I'm surprised for lack of attention to this record). It's actually quite good and maintains dark, gloomy distinctly gothic atmosphere. It also reminds me of what Paradise Lost did in 2000s when they experimented a lot with electronics and softer sound.
