Anthronomicon and Helionomicon are each towering accomplishments from a band that continues to go from strength to strength.
If we take Anthronomicon as the gateway to Ulthar's double release, we couldn't hope for a better start.
Non metal person here. I agree with the other reviews on the flat mix but I actually liked this quite a bit. Ulthar focus just as much on locking in on tight grooves as anything else and it pays off, creating a slyly funky and rewarding listen.
The cover looked sick so I decided to give it a test run. Main complaints are the fairly flat mix of this album on the first few tracks, a seeming lack of any real variation in energy at points, and some of these songs going on for too long.
There's clearly a sort of sci-fi theme going on with the album, given all the track names, the ambient segments at the end of some tracks, and the occasional lyrics I can make out.
